Issue Position: Common Sense Tax Policy

After passing obviously reckless and unaffordable tax breaks for corporate income and high income earners in 2012, which led to the current fiscal crisis, the legislature added insult to injury by passing the largest tax increase in Kansas history on the backs of lower income working Kansans. Kansas now has one of the most regressive tax systems in the nation, with lower income Kansans paying a higher share of their income in total taxes (including sales taxes) than high income earners. Further, income from over 330,000 corporate entities is not taxed one cent! No Kansas business or family would run their business or household in such a fiscally irrational manner. The reckless 2012 income tax breaks should be repealed in order to fully fund our schools.
